The week in review

Hello everybody!  It is Friday night and I remembered that I haven't been online in awhile....thought I'd better catch everybody up on my trip!

On Monday, Mary and I went to Cobano to buy groceries and to pick up one of the fridges that she had dropped off to get fixed....so I would have a place for my groceries.  The road there was quite rough....definitely needed a 4X4 taxi.  We ate lunch at a little French cafe and then Mary had a meeting.  I walked around and checked out a few stores.  I went grocery shopping and then headed back to the cafe for a great cappuccino.

Mary and I then met up at the fruit market before heading to pick up the fridge.  I rode in the back on the way back to Cabuya....quite another bumpy ride, but not as bad as the one there.  This time we traveled through Montezuma.

The next day, I got to finally see one of the wild troops of white-faced capuchins!  It was a little scary at first....they came through the trees, eating and throwing mangoes.  Then they settled down and I was able to get some pics.

I am having a lot of fun with Charlie, the baby howler monkey.  He was thrown out of his troop as an infant....bad bite wounds and a broken leg.  As you can see, he is healing well.  Kristen and I take him out everyday for at least an hour to play in the trees....we also just walk around with him like a baby so he can look around.

Edwin and Alejandro, two Ticos that work for Mary, took Kristen and I up to the farm to see the waterfalls.  It was quite a bit of hiking through roads and jungle.  The jungle and views were gorgeous! The dogs decided it would be great fun to bark at a couple of wild capuchins and chase some cows...not a great idea, by the way.  The waterfall was a cool reprieve from the heat and mosquitoes....Copito didn't like it...he says it was too cold but Spirit loved the cool water.  We hiked back down by way of the creek.

By the way, don't grab onto this tree!  Many things sting, bite, or poke you here!

We have been working hard at cleaning up Rainsong.  Some of the storage areas have gotten a little out of control so we are all working at organizing and making a little more breathing room for us and the animals that are here.

During cleaning: I found some friends to help....well, they thought they would try to help distract me!

This is the Cane toad, the largest toad in the world!
everybody's favorite!

These were my favorite find of the day!  There is actually another baby in the green cup I am holding!  I have no idea how it fit in there, but it did....and it was quite comfy!

There were a total of 5 baby opossums, every time I would move them out of one bin, I would turn around and find them 20 minutes later, in another bin.....sigh.

And finally.....it was cleaner!

Turns out it is rather a nice place to lie in a hammock and read during the day....and there are christmas lights for the night!  The opossums decided not to come back.

Alright, well people, that is the week in review.

I went to the beach today so, now I have to go take a shower....a very cold shower and get to bed.  Kristen and I are headed to Montezuma tomorrow morning.  Saturdays are our day off.
